SATURDAY, JAN. 17 “TECHNO”CONTRADANCE with ERIK ERHARDT

Everyone enjoyed last year’s Techno contradance so much that we had to fly Erik in from Albuquerque for another go! We’re kicking off this new year’s dance season with Erik who will be teaching a cross-step waltz workshop at 2:15 and calling the “techno” contradance later at 6:30 (our usual time).
What is a “techno”contra?
A meticulously-choreographed continuous two-hour contra dance medley to custom-mixed electro-swing and modern club music consisting of 51+ tunes and 25 dances (16 improper, 9 becket) will keep your feet moving and your heart pumping.  Some contra dance experience is strongly recommended (at least two evenings of dance).  Dancers enter and exit whenever they want at the ends of the line. An intermission will also be provided to recharge and finish strong.
Erik’s words about Techno’s level of difficulty:
Two or three sets, total of about 2.5 hours dancing with a break (or two).
A techno contra, as I do it, is a continuous medley.  The dances are very easy dances, but the challenge is there because they are not taught and they are strung together.
Here’s an interesting CDSS article about some of the ways that contradance and American traditional dance are evolving and diversifying. It’s a good read. HERE!
NO dance lesson.  Dance will begin at 6:30 until 10:00

Waltz workshop cost: $15,                  25yrs and under $10
Evening Techno dance: $10,                 25yrs and under $5
Or workshop & techno: $20
