Where we dance
Tucson Friends of Traditional Music rents dance hall space at a number of venues around Tucson. Our usual and favorite place to dance is the beautiful wooden floor at the First United Methodist Church at the corner of Fourth Street and Park Avenue. (915 East 4th Street, Tucson, AZ)
The social hall is a light, airy room with an extremely high, open-beam ceiling and a wonderful old hardwood, tongue and groove floor that is easy on the legs when dancing for a solid three hours. There is plenty of parking in the Church parking lot entered from Fourth Street, between the Tyndall parking garage and Park Avenue.
We generally dance here every first, third fourth and fifth Saturday evenings from 7:00 ’til 10:00 pm. When the Church hall isn’t available, we try to schedule another location so we won’t miss out on any dancing. The Calendar/Schedule is always updated with the upcoming dance info andВ shows the location when we have advance notice of a change in venue.
Another old favorite is the Cabaret Theater at the Temple of Music and Art in downtown Tucson. This is a small, second-floor theater space with a wooden floor and a low stage for the band. Located at 330 South Scott, there is only neighborhood parking on adjacent streets.
We have recently used the dance hall at the Arizona Ballet Theater at 2512 E 6th Street across from the Rincon Market.
We are always looking for alternate venues for our dances. Our requirements are:
- a hall of 1,000 square feet or more,
- a real wood floor,
- availibility on some Saturday Nights, and
- a reasonable rent for nonprofits.
